of India tucked in the Himalaya across Nepal’s eastern frontier. It is crammed in between Tibet (China) to the north, Bhutan to the east and West Bengal (D.G.H.C) to the south. The former kingdom is home to three major population groups – Lepcha, Bhutia, & Nepalese providing a colourful composite culture.
Situated at 5,500 ft. altitude Gangtok is the capital of Sikkim. It is a charming, laid back town stradding a ridge with house spilling down the hillside. Gangtok, the capital city in the east district, the seat of Governance and the primary hun of commercial activity. The drive up the Teesta gorge to this prettily located first town of Sikkim is spectacular. Gangtok lures visitors with its fabulous natural views.
Mt. Kangchendzonga. Its strategic location, a strong Buddhist presence and heady cultural offerings are a tempting insight into this stimulating land. A good time to be here is around Buddha Purnima (May) to enjoy the famous Saga Dawa festivities. Walking in colourful procession, the holy monks carry the holly books of Buddha’s teching from the Tsuklakhang Monastery in the place to different parts of town. Some cultural activities normally occur throughout the year at different places of the city. Enjoy the wonderful food festival to get the taste of Sikkiese traditional food & also the flower fest with local rare Orchid at here.
