Nature Interpretation Centre - Ecologicial Museum


The ecological museum which is situated just outside the town, is one of its kind in this region. it has been setup by the Forest Department.

 

Durpin Dara View Point


This is the highest view point of kalimpong town offering a breathtaking view of the valley of Tista and the Tista river. The sound of Tista River’s ever flowing gurgling water and the beautiful virgin forests enveloping this region makes this view points an exotic place for an excursion as well as an outbound program

 

Morgan House

The best example of the colonial past of kalimpong is reflected in the morgan house,one of the oldest Colonial bungalows which was built by the British after they opened up Kalimpong as a Hill Resort. Now it proudly stands as one of the best hotels in kalimpong and has been currently renewed under the West Bengal Tourism Devolopment Corp.

 

Delo View Point

situated at an altitude is 5500 ft this point offers a picturesque view of the entire kalimpong town, On a clear day one can get a clear view of mt. kanchanjangha and its adjacent peaks from this point,. one can also get a view of the relli valley on one side and the wild Tista river, & tista valley on the other side and also villages of south sikkim and high mountain of west sikkim. this is an ideal place for day picnic
there are two water reservoirs in this place that supply drinking water to the entire kalimpong town.

Dr. Graham's Homes

One of the main reasons for Kalimpong to have become such a large, important and renowned town within a short span of time is due to the Christian missionaries. One of the earliest Scottish missionaries to come to Kalimpong was Dr. J. A Graham, who immediately fell in love with the town. He spent his early years in Kalimpong preaching Christianity, but after a certain time, he diverted his attention towards establishing orphanage cum school for needy Anglo-Indian children. The school chapel is a glorious example of old European architecture.

Kalimpong Art & Craft Centre

Founded in 1897 by Mrs. Graham, this is a thriving center where carpet weaving, leather crafting, painting, tailoring, dyeing, and carpentry are taught, besides promoting the work of local artisans and craftsmen. The Gouripur House, a summer retreat of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, is where he penned many unforgettable poems.

Tista View Point

Situated about 3 kms away from the town on the Kalimpong –is the beautiful tista view point which offers a panoramic view of the Teesta Rangeet Valley.one can also get a clear view of Teesta river and the valley below.

Tharpa Choeling Monastery (Ghumpha)

Built in the year 1926,This small monastery is situated about 1 and half km from the town and lies on the way to Dr. Graham's Homes. It belongs to the yellow hat sect. of Buddhism or the Gelupa Sect. to which the present Dalai Lama belongs.


Tongsa Gumba

Situated at 10th mile, this is one of the oldest monasteries in the region and was built in the year 1630 and lies about 1 km from the town. this monastery is of Bhutanese origin and holds great cultural importance to the people.

Lepcha Museum

Situated about a kilometer from the town. this museum holds various articles of interest for those who are interested to know about the Lepcha culture and region.

Mangal Dham

This beautifully constructed temple is one of the most splendid Hindu temples in northern India. This temple was founded by the revered Nijanandaacharya Shri Devchandraji Maharaj, and belongs to the followers of the Shri Krisna Pranami Dharma. This well constructed temple is a classic example of Indian architecture. this temple is situated about a kilometer from the center of the town and is spread over an area of two acres.

Kalimpong Bazar

This is the most busiest place in the town and is spread in an area of 1 km along the main roads of the town one being the Rishi Road and the other the R.C Mintri road. kalimpong is a small town with even more compact Bazaar. the bazaar can very easily be explored on foot. The Part of the Rishi Road between the Police Station and the Kalimpong Handicrafts Center is more commonly known as the main road.

Durga Mandir

This small but very picturesque temple of Goddess Durga has been built at 13th mile, which is about 4 kms from the town. The Delo hill is within a walking distance from this temple.

Kali Mandir

This famous Hindu Temple is situated approximately 2 kilometer from the town on the road to St. Augustine's School and St. Tetesa's Church.

St.Teresa’s Church

This is largest Roman Catholic Church in Kalimpong and it is run by the Catholic fathers. havins been built by local craftsman, the religious personalities in the paintings that decorated the wall have a distinct Tibetan touch.

Jelepla View Points

This view point just below the Zang Dhok Palri Phodong, has excellent view of the snow ranges, Teesta and Relli river, the valley below and of

Zang Dhok Parli Phodang

This is largest and most beautiful monastery in Kalimpong. Consecrated by His holiness, the Dalai Lama in 1976 . he also presented "The Kangyur" in 108 volumes to this monastery.

Dharmodaya Vihar

Dharmodaya Vihar is a Nepalese Buddhist temple situated just outside the town. In the year 1944 when the Rana rulers expelled all Theravada Bhikkhus (monks) from Nepal. they traveled to sarnath along with a large number of devotees. An association was subsequently formed there by the name of Dharmodaya Shabha to propagate Theravada Buddhism amongst the people.

Flower & Orchid Nurseries

kalimpong has many nurseries which houses gladioli, orchids, cacti, amaryllis, anthuriums, roses, gerberas, dahlias and other exotic plants which are grown in large numbers, mainly for export.

Army Golf Club
